Eyes are the window to the soul. Double eyelid surgery can create an eyelid crease on the eyelid. Although there is no change in the size of your eyeball itself, the double eyelid surgery can make a person with dull eyes and an ordinary appearance more brightly.
Two types of double eyelid surgery
● 1. Non-incisional procedure
After measuring the proposed double eyelid line and marking with a pen, a series of tiny punctures are made in the skin along the line. Sutures are placed through the punctures and tightened until they form the desired crease. The sutures will remain beneath the skin, out of sight (through the outer skin of the upper eyelid and the inner conjunctiva, and tie the sutures to the levator muscle). The surgery requires one to three stitches. This method is suitable for the persons who are young, have thin skin, low fat mass, no excess eyelids and sagging eyes. The advantages are that the surgery is simpler, the incision is smaller, the pain is lower, the swelling is easy to reduce after the operation, the recovery timeline is shorter, and double eyelids look more natural. However, the excess fat or skin cannot be removed, and the non-incisional procedure can be reversed by changing from double eyelid to inner double ones over time, or even back to the preoperative appearance.
● 2. Incisional procedure
After measuring the proposed double eyelid line and marking with a pen, the upper eyelid is incised. The excess skin, muscle and fat tissue are removed, and then the upper eyelid is fixed on the tarsus and the fascia of the levator muscle to make double eyelid. This procedure is suitable for those who are older, have hypertrophic eyelids, ptosis or excessive eyelids. The advantages includes (1) the creases of the double eyelids are deeper and not easy to disappear; (2) the durability is good; (3) the eye shape can be changed; and (4) the degree of eye change could be wider. Furthermore, if the eyelid skin is thick, the excess part can be removed through this procedure. The disadvantages are that the pain is high, the recovery period is long, the incision is large, and the necessary of suture removal.

▍Eye bag surgery
Most people focus their eyes on the double eyelids and ignore the importance of “eye bags”. Eye bags are located in the lower eyelids of the eyes. The methods of eye bag surgery
1. Incision in the inside of the lower eyelid
This procedure is suitable for patients who are young and maintain better skin elasticity.
Since eye bag formation in young people is mainly due to the accumulation of fat without loose skin problems, the fat can be taken out from the conjunctiva of the lower eyelid. The lower eyelid will return to be flat and firm naturally post-operation, and there will be no need to remove the sutures. There will not exist a scarring problem.
2.Incision below the lower eyelashes (lower-eyelid blepharoplasty)
This method is suitable for patients over the age of 30 or patients whose lower eyelids have sagging.
For patients over 30 years old, the skin around the eyes has started to loss its elasticity. In addition to the fat accumulation in eye bags, there will also exist skin sagging problems. In order to achieve the effect of eye bag removal, it is necessary to remove the excess skin. The incision is immediately below the lower-eyelash. This incision can be used to remove bulging eyelid fat and redundant skin, as well as to smoothen the junction between the lower eyelid and cheek. The suture can be removed in about 7 to 10 days post-operation. It is not easy to have scars on lower eyelashes if you take care of the incisions.
3. Fat transfer under eyes
The aim of eye bag fat transfer surgery is not to extract fat, but to smoothen the tear groove and transfer the excess fat. We first harvest the fat from the eye bag and keep it, and then transfer the fat drop to the collapse of the tear groove. If the fat mass is enough, it can be also used to fill in the sunken cheeks at the same time. However, if the fat mass from eye bags is insufficient, we can take the fat from the belly or thighs to replace. This surgical method can avoid the problem of eye bag recurrence, and at the same time make the cheeks as full as apples by not only eliminating eye bags, but also having a good appearance.
